OneWeb's Global Ku- and Ka-Band Spectrum is Secured
By Satnews Daily | August 11, 2019
OneWeb has succeeded in bringing into use the company's spectrum rights in the Ku- and Ka-band spectrum.
“To achieve this milestone, OneWeb’s satellites have been transmitting at the designated frequencies in the correct orbit for more than 90 days, enabling OneWeb to meet the requirements to secure spectrum bands over which it has priority rights under ITU rules and regulations. These rights will now be confirmed as the UK administration, which has filed our satellite system with the ITU, will complete the required Notification and Registration process of the company’s LEO network.”

Fundamental changes ahead as ground systems prepare for constellations, 5G
by Debra Werner | August 11, 2019
“When Spire Global was building a constellation of cubesats to gather maritime and weather data in 2015, the startup built its own UHF ground station network. Now, most startups wouldn’t consider building their own ground systems because they can rely on a growing roster of companies that specialize in handling data flowing between satellites and ground networks.”

Frost & Sullivan Release Global Space Industry Outlook Analysis for 2019 and Beyond
by Satnews Daily | August 14, 2019
Frost & Sullivan forecasts the total revenue opportunities for the global satellite manufacturing market will soar past $366.06 billion, with global launch demand for 12,766 satellites and cumulative launch opportunities of $102.52 billion for the period 2019 to 2030.
“According to Arun Kumar Sampathkumar, Industry Manager, Space, at Frost & Sullivan, the space industry is rapidly evolving. Not only are satellite platforms becoming more agile and robust with the execution of software-based satellites, electric propulsion systems and spot beam offerings, but competition in the launch services market is lowering prices and new entrants with mega-constellation-based business models are poised to disrupt the connectivity and earth observation market.”

5G doesn’t require new limits on RF exposure, FCC says
by Bevin Fletcher | August 9, 2019
“Federal Communications Commission officials have decided that no new limits on radio frequency (RF) exposure are needed and that 5G does not pose any added health risks.
“Following a six-year review, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai on Thursday introduced a proposal that maintains current limits on RF exposure, concluding that existing standards are sufficient to ensure public health and safety when it comes to wireless technologies. The agency said the findings were informed by close work with the FDA and other federal health and safety agencies. The exposure limits apply to all RF-emitting objects including handheld devices, computers and cell towers, and span technology generations including 3G, 4G, and 5G.”

OneWeb disputes Virgin Orbit lawsuit, says LauncherOne is too expensive
by Caleb Henry | August 8, 2019
“WASHINGTON — Megaconstellation startup OneWeb asked a court to dismiss a June lawsuit by Virgin Orbit, claiming that it doesn’t accurately portray a 2015 launch contract.
“Virgin Orbit, whose LauncherOne small launch vehicle is nearing a maiden flight, sued OneWeb for cancelling in June 2018 all but four of 39 launches it had purchased.
“Virgin Orbit asserted that OneWeb owed $46.32 million of a $70 million termination fee.
“OneWeb, in an Aug. 5 filing to the District Court of the Southern District of New York, said Virgin Orbit overlooked a 2017 contract amendment allowing earlier launch payments to apply to the fee.”
